The Maine Coon cat is known as the “Gentle Giant”. This is because of their large size and their even larger sweet temperament. These gentle giants are lively and affectionate. Highly intelligent, they sometimes act dogmatic, fetching and waiting at the door for their people’s arrival. They are large boned and come in many coat colors like whites, reds. blues, blacks, browns with and without white and patterns like solids, mackerel, tabbies, and torties with the most common being the brown tabby. They have tall, large ears filled with fur, with tufts of fur on their ear tips and between their toes. Their long, bushy tail is the length of their rectangular shaped body and is usually held proud as they walk about. They love water and large amounts tend to get their attention. The voice of the Maine Coon is unique ranging from a small “mew” to a high pitched trill or chirping sound but never constant or announcing. Our goal is to breed healthy cats with a sweet temperament, type and size. As health is clearly most important to our breeding program, we screen our cats for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) with DNA testing and regular echocardiogram.
